Why Are Shipping Fees to Jordan Different from the Gulf? And How to Calculate Them Before Shipping | 0551247117

Jordan Shipping Fees Explained — Alnesr Alzahby International Shipping

Duties and taxes on shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan: how Jordan differs from the GCC customs union, certificates of origin and Arab trade agreements, how fees are calculated, and personal belongings and final returnees.

A customer ships goods to the UAE or Kuwait and they pass almost without friction, then ships the same item to Jordan and is surprised by a bill for taxes and duties. The difference isn’t the shipping company but the system: the Gulf countries share one customs union, while Jordan sits outside it with its own system — though Arab trade agreements give goods of Arab origin preferential treatment. In this guide we explain the difference clearly, how duties and taxes are calculated, when a certificate of origin helps, and how personal belongings are treated, so you aren’t surprised after the shipment arrives.

Certificate of origin: when does it help?

Saudi Arabia and Jordan are both members of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, and goods of Arab origin that meet the rules of origin may be exempt from customs duties with a valid Arab certificate of origin. But note:

  • The exemption covers customs duties: it doesn’t necessarily cancel sales tax or other fees.
  • Origin means the country of manufacture: not the country of shipment; Chinese goods shipped from Riyadh are not of Saudi origin.
  • The certificate must be valid and match: any difference with the invoice cancels its effect.

How are duties and taxes calculated?

FactorEffect
ValueThe value declared on the invoice or the value adopted in customs valuation.
HS codeEach item has its tariff; the right code means the right tariff.
OriginDetermines the tariff applied and eligibility for trade agreements.
Type of shipmentUsed personal furniture differs from new and commercial goods.
Procedural feesClearance and border handling fees are separate from charges on the goods.
⚠️ Don’t under-declare the value
Declaring less than the real value to save on fees may trigger revaluation, fines and delay, and reduces compensation if the shipment is damaged. Declare the real value from the start.

Personal belongings and final returnees

Personal belongings and used furniture are usually treated differently from commercial goods, and Jordanians returning permanently from abroad have easier treatment under conditions set by Jordan Customs. Check the current conditions before shipping and prepare your documents early — details in final return to Jordan.
